During the course I assumed the position of Lead Programmer and helped the team cook up a platformer where you can change the shape of your character. We had lots of issues with mesh-gen, in addition to having to deal with Motion Matching and having to support a large team. I’m happy that we managed to finish a quite polished game which feels smooth to play.
The core mechanic allows freezing the time, during which you can draw the desired character shape. After unfreezing, your character takes the drawn form. The length is limited, but you can stay frozen for as long as you wish.
Due to having such a unique mechanic, our levels were quite crazy as well, both in art and in design. The majority of the game can feel like playing Getting Over It as you spend most of the time climbing unforgiving obstacles.
Regardless, it was fun to mess about in the levels, which led to discovering some fun game-breaking glitches (hint, freeze in air), which led to some fun speedrunning.
I wrote a weird technical/non-technical article in Posts -> Gneiss which goes wayyyy more in-depth.
